Police in Meru have arrested two suspects on suspicion of engaging in violent robbery.
According to police, the two were arrested on Wednesday night after an alert was issued by a local National Police Reservist (NPR).
"On June 4, 2025, at around 2030 hours, a National Police Reservist (NPR) reported hearing gunshots at Mungania Shopping Centre in Meru. The reservist spotted an armed suspect carrying an AK-47 rifle, who dropped the weapon and fled on foot after being challenged," said a police report.
"Officers from Kathare, Subuiga, and Buuri East Police Stations responded swiftly."
On arrival, police found an abandoned motor vehicle believed to have been used by the suspects.
Inside the vehicle were several personal items, including two mobile phones, and a female suspect, who was immediately apprehended.
A second suspect was arrested shortly afterwards while hiding in a nearby residence.
Initial investigations revealed that the suspects had robbed a shop attendant in the area, who sustained minor injuries during the incident.
Both suspects are now in police custody, awaiting arraignment in court.
