A Nairobi court has stopped a private developer from evicting the Insurance Training and Education Trust from a piece of land in South C, Nairobi, following a long-running ownership dispute.

Justice Grace Kemei of the Environment and Land Court also barred the developer, Rajab Ahmed Karume, from building a perimeter wall that would cut off five acres of the college’s land.

“That the application be and is hereby certified urgent. That in the interim, prayers number three and four of the application be and are hereby granted pending the inter partes hearing,” the judge ruled.

The college, which also runs the Edge Convention Center, told the court that it has faced repeated land grabbing attempts for over two decades.

It said it has been in uninterrupted possession of the land since 1994 and has been using it as a sports ground and parking space for its guests.

Through its lawyer Kenvine Odhiambo, the institution asked the court to suspend an earlier order issued in November 2024 that had given the developer possession rights to the disputed property. Justice Kemei warned that anyone who disobeys the court’s orders would face punishment.
