DIG Lagat steps aside as probe over Ojwang murder continues

Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat has stepped aside from office to allow investigations into the death of Albert Ojwang to proceed without interference.
Lagat in a notice dated June 16, 2025, said the move was a personal decision made in view of his role and responsibilities, and that his deputy will take over until the probe is complete.
"In the good and conscious thought of my role and responsibilities as the Deputy Inspector General of Kenya Police Service, and in view of the ongoing investigations on the unfortunate incident of the death of Mr. Albert Ojwang, I have today opted to step aside," he said.
Lagat added that he will fully support the investigation process. “I undertake to provide any support that may be required of me during the investigations of the unfortunate incident,” he stated.
He also sent condolences to Ojwang’s family.
"I offer immense condolences to the family of Mr. Albert Ojwang for their great loss," Lagat added
