UN Refugee Agency chief Grandi sounds alarm over growing global displacement crisis

Grandi said the day was both a tribute to the courage and resilience of refugees and a critical reminder of the worsening challenges they face.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, has appealed for renewed global solidarity as well as urgent action to support the more than 122 million people forcibly displaced by war, violence, and persecution worldwide.
Speaking from Syria as the world marks World Refugee Day on Friday, — where he met families returning home after years of displacement — Grandi said the day was both a tribute to the courage and resilience of refugees and a critical reminder of the worsening challenges they face.
“Record numbers of men, women and children have been uprooted from their homes, but their ability to find safety and support is threatened as never before,” said Grandi.
He attributed the crisis to the continued failure to end devastating conflicts across the globe — including in Sudan, Ukraine, Gaza, and the Democratic Republic of Congo — which has created "untold human suffering.
