A tragic early Tuesday morning road accident has claimed the lives of three people at the Musingu Market Centre near Sigalagala National Polytechnic in Shinyalu Constituency, Kakamega County.

Confirming the incident, Shinyalu sub-county acting OCPD Masai Kamau, said an intoxicated driver of a speeding pickup lost control of the vehicle, hitting a female pedestrian before crashing into two men on a motorbike, aged 24 and 23.

The three people died on the spot as the driver fled the scene and sought refuge at the Malinya Police Station.

Residents, angry over the incident set the driver's vehicle ablaze.

Masai Kamau confirmed that investigations had confirmed alcohol intoxication as the primary cause of the crash, adding they are processing the uninjured driver for arraignment.

Kamau urged road users to follow traffic regulations and observe speed limits, especially in market areas.
