Ex-TSC boss declines Murang'a county role, cites new international offer

She further explained that she had expected the position to be part-time but later understood it would require full-time engagement, making it difficult to balance with her new opportunity.
Former Teachers Service Commission CEO Nancy Macharia has declined her recent nomination by Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata to serve as Chairperson of the County Public Service Board, citing a competing offer from an international organisation and concerns over the position's full-time demands.
In a letter dated June 25 and addressed to the governor, Macharia expressed gratitude for the nomination but said she would not proceed to the vetting scheduled for Friday.
"I hereby thank you for nominating me for the Chair of the Murang'a County Public Service Board. However, I decline the post as I have received another offer from an international body, which, in my opinion, could affect my performance in the said role," she stated.
She further explained that she had expected the position to be part-time but later understood it would require full-time engagement, making it difficult to balance with her new opportunity.
Her withdrawal came just days before the scheduled end of her term at the TSC, which concludes on June 30, 2025. Macharia had been nominated alongside Dr. Louis Mwende Musikali, Johnson Kang’ethe Kinyua, and Dr. Brian Lishenga Makamu to serve as members of the County Public Service Board. Oscar Kimani Gathura had been nominated as Secretary to the Board.
Governor Kang’ata is now expected to make a new appointment to fill the vacant chairperson position following Macharia’s decision.
