Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara has issued a warning to President William Ruto, cautioning that growing youth discontent could jeopardize his re-election bid in 2027 if urgent reforms are not implemented.

Speaking during a public forum in Nakuru County on Sunday, June 29, Kihara said the Kenya Kwanza administration is increasingly alienating Generation Z by failing to address critical concerns such as unemployment, economic hardship, and political accountability.

“We are heading into a tough election. The youth have raised valid grievances, and the government appears unwilling to listen,” she said.

Kihara revealed that she had confronted President Ruto directly about his 2022 campaign promises to young Kenyans, including job creation and economic empowerment but lamented that those pledges remain unmet.

“The President made commitments to the youth. Those promises haven’t been fulfilled, and that’s what has put him on a political tightrope,” she said.

Her remarks follow a wave of nationwide protests largely led by Gen Z demonstrators demanding transparency, jobs, and an end to punitive taxation.

The demonstrations, which began online, have erupted into widespread street action, resulting in clashes with police and several fatalities.

“These young people are educated and jobless. They watch leaders thrive while their families struggle to afford basics like food and school fees. They’ve had enough,” Kihara said.

She urged the government to adopt a more inclusive and respectful approach, warning that dismissiveness and arrogance from state officials could fuel long-term political fallout.
