A group of activists arrested during the June 25, 2025, protests was arraigned at the Kibera Law Courts on Monday under tight police watch.

The detainees, some held for several days, arrived in a convoy of three police vehicles and were escorted into the courtroom one by one, flanked by heavily armed officers.

Outside, a crowd of supporters, mostly fellow activists, gathered in solidarity, chanting “Viva comrades, viva!” and raising fists in defiance.

Cheers erupted as those in custody responded with defiant salutes and chants of their own, reinforcing the unity behind the youth-led demonstrations.

The protests, which marked the first anniversary of the 2024 anti-Finance Bill uprising, drew thousands to the streets across the country and were driven by mounting frustrations over governance and accountability.

Several fatalities and incidents of property destruction, including damage to government buildings, were reported.

Human rights organizations have since condemned the arrests, accusing authorities of using arbitrary detention and excessive force against peaceful demonstrators.

The court is expected to issue a ruling on whether the activists will be released or remain in custody pending further legal proceedings.
