In Summary

Under her guidance, the SRC has gained a reputation as a regional leader in developing innovative and equitable pay systems.

The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) has officially announced the conclusion of Dr Anne Rwamba Gitau’s tenure as commission secretary and chief executive officer, marking the end of a transformative 13-year journey that helped shape Kenya’s public sector pay structure.

Dr Gitau’s term came to a close on June 30, 2025, and on Thursday, July 3, she formally handed over to CPA Margaret Njoka, the director of corporate services, who will serve in an acting capacity until a new CEO is appointed.

The recruitment process for a substantive officeholder is currently ongoing.

“The commission expresses its deep appreciation and gratitude to Dr Gitau for her commitment and dedicated service to SRC and to the people of Kenya, and wishes her the very best in her future endeavours,” the commission said in a statement.

Dr Gitau joined the commission in 2012, shortly after its establishment in July 2011. She was appointed as CEO in 2015 and has since been at the forefront of public sector remuneration reforms, earning recognition both locally and internationally for her efforts to align Kenya’s compensation structures with global best practices.

A certified Human Resources Practitioner, Dr Gitau is also known for mentoring young professionals in talent management and for her collaborative work with stakeholders across government and international organisations.

Her leadership at the SRC has been marked by strong institutional growth, enhanced policy direction, and efforts to embed fairness and sustainability in public compensation.

Under her guidance, the SRC has gained a reputation as a regional leader in developing innovative and equitable pay systems.

Dr Gitau’s contribution to public service has earned her several national honours, including the Elder of the Burning Spear (EBS) awarded by President William Ruto in 2023, and the Moran of the Burning Spear (MBS) conferred by former President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2017.

The commission praised her for her visionary leadership, dedication to institutional integrity, and long-term impact on the public service.

SRC is established under Chapter 12, Article 230 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010. Its mandate includes setting and reviewing the remuneration and benefits of state officers and advising both national and county governments on compensation for all other public officers.
