Heavy security was deployed in Nairobi and across major towns.

Ahead of planned Saba Saba Day protests, police roadblocks have been erected on roads in and leading to Nairobi's CBD.

There were roadblocks on roads such as the Thika Road, Ngong Road, Kiambu Road, Waiyaki Way, and Uhuru Highway.

"In response to the ongoing demonstrations, Kenya Red Cross teams are on the ground providing emergency care. We have set up triage points in strategic locations to ensure timely medical assistance and hospital evacuation where needed. For emergencies, please call 1199."

Medics condemn obstruction of healthcare workers during ongoing demos

Kenya Medical Association condemns the obstruction of healthcare workers and the targeting of medical facilities during the ongoing protests.

KMA: "Healthcare is not a target. Medical neutrality is not optional. Access to care is a fundamental right. The repeated failure to uphold these principles during protests is causing preventable death and suffering. We demand action now. The sanctity of healthcare delivery must be respected unconditionally."

Protesters break into mobile phone shop in Murang'a County

Hundreds of youths engaged police officers in violent confrontations at Kabati area in Kandara Sub-county, Murang’a County, before overpowering them and breaking into businesses.

The group, which lit bonfires on Monday morning, first stormed a mobile phone shop and looted it before targeting a nearby supermarket.

For hours, they engaged police in running battles as officers struggled to keep them away from the business premises.

However, attempts to disperse the group bore little fruit as their numbers swelled, eventually overwhelming the officers and forcing them to retreat.

Long-distance buses were stranded at Kabete Police Station after being blocked from entering Nairobi CBD.

This is despite earlier claims by DIG Masengeli that no one has been barred from accessing the CBD.

No restrictions to the CBD-DIG Masengeli

DIG Gilbert Masengeli asked by NTV about whether there are restrictions to Kenyans entering Nairobi's CBD, denied the claims.

DIG Masengeli: "Everybody is getting into the CBD, everybody is going for duty as normal, no worries!"

He adds that no one will be turned away.

"Ours is just to urge everybody to keep peace and confine themselves to the rule of law," said the DIG.

This comes after commuter traffic in several areas around the city were blocked from accessing the CBD.
