Kingi further encouraged the governor to seek dialogue with both Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo and members of the County Assembly.

Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo has been cautioned to avoid celebrating the Senate’s decision to drop his impeachment case, with Speaker Amason Kingi urging him to take the ruling as an opportunity to rebuild trust and mend political relationships within the county.

Speaking during a Senate sitting on Tuesday, Kingi told the governor that the Senate’s move should not be treated as a victory, warning that how he conducts himself moving forward will determine whether the case remains closed or resurfaces.

“Now, to the governor, let me offer you unsolicited advice. This is not a win, and, therefore, the Senate does not expect you to go out there chest-thumping,” Kingi said.

“This is a postponement of your case. It is a postponement of your hearing. Now, depending on how you’re going to carry yourself from today going forward, that case may never be heard. Similarly, depending on how you’re going to behave out there, your case may be back here in a matter of days. It’s up to you.”

The Speaker noted that issues raised during the preliminary hearings had exposed serious political fractures in Isiolo, and asked Guyo to focus on restoring unity instead of treating the reprieve as an endorsement.

“From the little that we’ve gathered through this preliminary objection, clearly, there are cracks on the walls of Isiolo County. If I were you, I’d go mend those cracks. I would not bring down the walls of Isiolo County, because that is the big fear expressed by the Senator for Isiolo County,” he said.

Kingi further encouraged the governor to seek dialogue with both Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo and members of the County Assembly. He said the reconciliation could be facilitated through a third party if direct talks are not possible.

“We expect, as the leadership, as the top leader in Isiolo County, you need to have a sitting with your Senator, even if it’s through a third party. As the top leader in Isiolo County, you need to mend your relationship with the County Assembly, even if it means through a third party,” he added. “This is advice you may take or leave, but the consequences are there.”

The Senate dismissed the impeachment case after upholding preliminary objections raised by Guyo’s legal team.

The objections centered on claims that the Isiolo County Assembly did not follow proper procedure when passing the impeachment motion.

Senators also agreed that a court order blocking the process had been ignored, further weakening the legitimacy of the impeachment.

During the vote, 31 elected senators voted in support of the objection raised, effectively ending the proceedings. Twelve opposed the motion, while none abstained.

Kingi confirmed that the decision meant the impeachment case was now officially terminated, based on the Senate’s earlier declaration that upholding the preliminary objection would automatically end the process.

“This motion having been passed, the impeachment proceedings in the matter of the proposed removal from office of the Governor of Isiolo County have forthwith terminated,” he said.
