Magondu appointed acting KeRRA boss as Philemon Kandie resigns

Kandie, who held the position of Director General since his appointment, did not publicly state the reason for stepping down, and the Authority did not disclose any further information regarding his exit.
The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) has announced the resignation of its Director General, Philemon Kandie, marking a major leadership change at the agency. His resignation takes effect from Friday, July 11, 2025.
In a public notice issued by the Authority, the KeRRA Board of Directors confirmed the departure and said it had, in consultation with the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, appointed Jackson K. Magondu to take over in an acting capacity. Magondu currently heads the Planning, Design and Environment Department at the agency.
“The Board of Directors would like to appreciate the outgoing Director General for his invaluable service and contribution to the Authority,” read part of the official statement.
Kandie, who held the position of Director General since his appointment, did not publicly state the reason for stepping down, and the Authority did not disclose any further information regarding his exit.
His departure makes him the latest senior official at the agency to leave before the end of his term. Magondu’s appointment, which also took effect on July 11, now places him at the helm of the roads agency as the board prepares to make a more permanent leadership decision.
KeRRA is responsible for the development, maintenance, and management of rural roads across the country. The changes in its leadership come at a time when the Authority continues to implement key infrastructure projects in various counties under ongoing government road improvement programmes.
