Nakuru Girls High School has been shut down indefinitely after students staged a night unrest that led to the destruction of property, including the end-of-term examinations.

The incident, which unfolded shortly after evening prep on Tuesday night, saw a group of students breach the examination room and vandalise key school facilities.

School principal Rose Menjo confirmed that the disruption began at around 9:30 pm when students caused a disturbance within the school compound.

In a statement issued to parents on Wednesday, she revealed that the examination and evaluation room was broken into and all end-of-term exam papers prepared for various classes were destroyed.

Several window panes were also shattered during the chaos.

“The extent of the damages will be assessed by the State Department of Public Works today, July 23, 2025. The situation in the school has been contained and all the students are safe,” Menjo said.

Following the incident, the school administration announced the immediate closure of the institution.

“The school closes today, July 23, 2025 at 8am till further communication. Please make arrangements to facilitate your daughter’s travel,” Menjo told parents.

The school management is expected to work with relevant government agencies to evaluate the damage and decide on the next steps.
