The motion to effect the committee reshuffle was moved by Majority Whip Silvanus Osoro and adopted by MPs during the afternoon sitting.
Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has been dropped from the influential Budget and Appropriations Committee in a fresh reorganisation of the National Assembly’s Departmental Committees.
In the changes approved by the House on Tuesday, July 29, Nyoro was reassigned to the Diaspora Affairs and Migrant Workers Committee, a move seen as part of wider realignments in parliamentary leadership.
The motion to effect the committee reshuffle was moved by Majority Whip Silvanus Osoro and adopted by MPs during the afternoon sitting.
The changes affected several committees, with new appointments, replacements, and reassignments across various portfolios.
Ndindi Nyoro’s replacement in the Budget and Appropriations Committee is Edwin Mugo Gichuki, who previously served in the Tourism and Wildlife Committee. In turn, Gichuki’s former position has been taken up by Leah Sopiato Sankaire.
In another key shift, Chepalungu MP Victor Koech was named to succeed the late Charles Ong’ondo Were in the Blue Economy, Water and Irrigation Committee, while Muiruri Muthama Stanley replaced Charity Kathambi Chepkwony in the same committee. Kathambi has now taken over Muthama’s slot in the Implementation Committee.
Njoroge Mary Wamaua has joined the Labour Committee, replacing Liza Chelule Chepkorir. Chelule was moved to the Regional Development Committee, succeeding Mary Emaase Otucho. Otucho, in turn, was appointed to the Public Accounts Committee to fill the position left vacant by Geoffrey Kariuki Ruku, who was recently appointed to the Cabinet.
Trade and Industry Committee saw a change as John Okano Bwire replaced Geoffrey Ruku. Meanwhile, Bwire’s previous seat in the Powers and Privileges Committee was taken by Jane Njeri Maina.
Shakeel Shabbir also joined the same committee, replacing James Oyoo.
Oyoo has now been placed in the Decentralized Funds Accounts Committee, taking the position previously held by Joyce Bensuda Osogo. Osogo has moved to the Blue Economy Committee to occupy the slot left by the late Charles Ong’ondo Were.
Elsewhere, Nimrod Mbithuka Mbai shifted to the Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee, replacing Eric Muchangi Karemba. Both Karemba and Patrick Munene Ntwiga were placed in the Public Petitions Committee, replacing Ernest Ogesi Kagesi and Mbai respectively.
Hon. Anne Muratha and Peter Ochieng’ Orero were appointed to the National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity Committee, with Orero taking the seat vacated by Ong’ondo Were.
The sweeping changes have introduced new faces into influential oversight and development committees, with leadership expressing confidence that the restructuring will enhance efficiency and accountability within the legislative framework.
