The case arises from an incident on May 25, 2025, when MP Koimburi was reported missing shortly after attending a church service.

Investigators are still examining electronic devices seized from the five individuals charged in connection with the alleged abduction of Juja MP George Koimburi, a Nairobi court was told on Tuesday.

Appearing before Milimani Magistrate Mark Ekhubi, the prosecution said that mobile phones and other gadgets recovered from the accused had been taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters and forensic laboratories for analysis.

The extraction of data is still underway and is expected to be completed within three weeks.

“The phones and other electronic gadgets have been forwarded to the DCI headquarters and forensic laboratories. The extraction process is still ongoing, and the items are expected to be released within 21 days,” the prosecution stated in court on Tuesday.

The five accused; MP George Koimburi, Peter Kiratu, David Macharia Gatana, Cyrus Muhia, and Murang’a MCA Grace Nduta Wairimu, were all present in court alongside their legal representatives.

Their defence teams confirmed they had received some of the evidence from the prosecution and accepted the proposed timelines.

The court was also informed that both sides had held talks over the return of vehicles impounded during investigations. A mutual agreement was reached that the vehicles would be released after seven days.

"We discussed the release of the motor vehicles and agreed they will be released after seven days," one of the defence lawyers told the court.

Magistrate Ekhubi welcomed the cooperation between the parties and scheduled the case for mention on September 10, 2025, to confirm the progress of evidence sharing and the release of both the electronic devices and vehicles.

The case arises from an incident on May 25, 2025, when MP Koimburi was reported missing shortly after attending a church service.

CCTV footage later emerged showing him being forced into a vehicle. He was later found and admitted to Karen Hospital, where he remains under medical supervision.

The MP and his co-accused are facing charges of conspiring to obstruct justice by allegedly faking his own abduction to avoid appearing before the Kiambu Law Courts. According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Koimburi was expected to answer four land fraud charges on that day.

All five accused were previously granted cash bail of Sh300,000 each. The court also issued orders barring them from contacting witnesses and instructed them to report to the investigating officer whenever required.
