People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua has called for the swift arrest and prosecution of individuals and networks implicated in a child sex trafficking ring exposed by a recent BBC Africa Eye documentary filmed in Maai Mahiu, Nakuru County.

In a hard-hitting statement on Wednesday, August 6, Karua condemned what she described as gross institutional failure by the state to protect minors.

She said children are being trafficked, exploited, and abused with impunity, adding that outrage alone is not enough. “We demand that all those involved in this trafficking ring be brought to justice. There must be zero protection for predators,” she stated.

The BBC investigation, conducted by two undercover journalists earlier this year, exposed how girls as young as 13 are being sold for sex with the involvement of women posing as “madams.”

The footage captured women openly admitting to exploiting minors, profiting from them, and exposing them to repeated abuse by clients, some of whom do not use protection.

Despite handing the evidence to police in March 2025, the BBC says no arrests have been made. The suspects reportedly moved location after filming. Police have claimed they were unable to trace them or the victims. Karua termed the inaction unacceptable and urged law enforcement agencies to act immediately.

“This documentary is a damning indictment of a system that has failed its children. Those responsible must be arrested, prosecuted, and jailed. Justice must not be delayed,” Karua said.

The exposé has triggered national outrage and renewed calls for urgent intervention to dismantle trafficking syndicates, enforce child protection laws, and hold accountable officials who fail to act on such grave crimes.
