Kenya to host Novo Nordisk regional office as part of deepening Denmark ties

Reviving the museum is part of a broader strategy to boost tourism and protect shared heritage under the new partnership framework
As Denmark prepares to take on the presidency of the European Union Council from July to December 2025, Kenya is gearing up to play a central role in a new phase of partnership driven by development and economic diplomacy.
This was highlighted by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi following his meeting with Danish Ambassador Stephan Schonemann on August 7, 2025, where both sides agreed on strengthening their collaboration across key sectors.
Central to the discussions was the establishment of the Novo Nordisk Foundation’s regional office in Nairobi.
Known globally for its leadership in diabetes and chronic disease care, the foundation’s presence is expected to accelerate innovation, training, and wider treatment availability in Kenya’s health sector.
This move underlines Kenya’s growing importance as a regional health hub.
The meeting also addressed cultural cooperation, with plans underway to restore the Karen Blixen Museum, a landmark symbolizing the deep historical and cultural links between Kenya and Denmark.
Reviving the museum is part of a broader strategy to boost tourism and protect shared heritage under the new partnership framework.
Trade and economic ties featured prominently, with both countries exploring ways to expand cooperation in agriculture, renewable energy, and sustainable tourism.
These initiatives will align closely with Denmark’s focus on Africa during its EU Council leadership, signaling Nairobi’s ambition to be a key player in regional development and economic growth.
For decades, Kenya and Denmark have enjoyed strong relations through development programs and exchanges.
Now, as Mudavadi explained, the two countries are moving toward a more strategic partnership that combines health innovation, cultural preservation, and economic diplomacy to deliver lasting benefits.
With Denmark leading the EU Council, Kenya is set to deepen its role as a crucial regional partner, jointly driving projects that enhance public health, conserve heritage, and foster economic progress across Africa.
