Investigators revealed the group was under close watch for suspected involvement in subversive activities.

The High Court has granted bail to Jackson Kihara, popularly known as Cop Shakur, and former Kenya Defence Forces soldier Patrick Osoi, setting the amount at Sh50,000.

The two were charged with suspected terrorism offences but were ordered to be released from police custody on condition they report to authorities when called.

On Friday, August 8, Magistrate Richard Koech at Kahawa Law Courts ruled on their release, citing the circumstances of the case. “Having considered the entire circumstances of this matter, I do allow the consolidated application allowing them a bond of Sh200,000 with a surety of a similar amount, or a cash bail of Sh50,000,” he said.

The two men, who are connected to the Fighting Brutality and Impunity (FBI) group, were freed alongside police constable Hiram Kimathi after a successful defence led by Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino.

Patrick Osoi was arrested on Tuesday, July 29, and charged with terrorism and other felony offences. Cop Shakur was detained the following day as he went to court to support Osoi.

The exact timing of Kimathi’s arrest is unclear. Kimathi is known for defying a transfer order after opposing a ‘shoot order’ from his superiors.

Investigators revealed the group was under close watch for suspected involvement in subversive activities. Osoi, a former Special Forces soldier, drew attention after launching the FBI group.

His communications team described his arrest as an “abduction,” carried out by heavily armed officers.

In a statement, Osoi explained the purpose of the group, saying it was created to defend victims of extrajudicial killings and support officers sidelined for rejecting illegal orders.

“Having served as a KDF Special Forces soldier, NIS officer, and US Army veteran, I took the solemn initiative of forming a movement dubbed Fighting Brutality and Impunity (FBI),” he said.

He added that the group consisted of former officers dismissed for refusing unlawful directives and standing with protestors during anti-government demonstrations.

“We will fight for every Kenyan mistreated by rogue police, for families of those killed, and for officers neglected by the very system they served. This is a fight for justice,” Osoi declared.
