Public Service CS, Geoffrey Ruku, said the reports misrepresented facts and risked creating unwarranted panic

The government has refuted reports suggesting that civil servants will be excluded from healthcare services under the Social Health Authority (SHA) insurance programme, terming the claims unfounded and capable of causing unnecessary public anxiety.

In a statement issued Saturday, Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku said the reports misrepresented facts and risked creating unwarranted panic among public officers and their families.

“We note with serious concern the misleading news reports claiming that civil servants will not have access to healthcare services through the Social Health Authority's health insurance program. These reports are grossly inaccurate and risk causing unnecessary alarm,” Ruku stated.

The CS stated that all civil servants and their eligible dependents will continue to receive medical services in public hospitals, as well as in accredited private and faith-based facilities contracted by the SHA.

He stressed that no government worker or dependent is required to pay cash at any contracted healthcare provider. “Access to quality and seamless healthcare services remains guaranteed as it has been over the years,” he assured.

Ruku further clarified that any medical facilities currently suspended by the SHA over malpractice or non-compliance with contractual obligations are restricted from serving all Kenyans — not just civil servants.

“The Ministry assures all civil servants and their dependents that their healthcare services remain uninterrupted and that their welfare is fully safeguarded,” he concluded.
