The clarification comes amid a looming standoff with eight leading insurance companies that have suspended their services at the facility

The Nairobi Hospital has refuted claims of a leadership change, describing a letter circulating online as fake, malicious, and aimed at misleading stakeholders.

In a statement issued Saturday, August 9, 2025, the hospital clarified that all official communication will only come from Chief Executive Officer Felix Osano or Chairman Barcley Onyambu, the duly elected board chair.

The clarification comes amid a looming standoff with eight leading insurance companies that have suspended their services at the facility, with most of the suspensions taking effect on Monday, August 11, or Tuesday, August 12. The move will leave many patients temporarily unable to use their insurance cover at the hospital.

Insurers have cited the hospital’s recent price increase as the trigger for the action, warning that the adjustments could drive up policy premiums for customers.

“This suspension is intended to allow our teams to negotiate a recent increase in prices, which is likely to affect the sustainability of your policy and result in a significant premium increase,” said Ken Omami, General Manager for Health Business at Old Mutual, on August 8.

In response, CEO Felix Osano assured the public that negotiations were already in progress. He revealed that representatives from both the hospital and the affected insurers will meet on August 11 and 12 in a consultative forum to seek a way forward.

“The aim of the meeting is to find a mutually agreeable solution that safeguards patient care and sustains access to quality medical services,” Osano said.

The hospital expressed confidence that a resolution will be reached through dialogue and goodwill, stressing that patient welfare remains the priority.

Members of the public have been urged to disregard unauthorized communications and rely only on official updates from the hospital’s leadership.
