Members of Parliament have given their approval to the construction of the Wundanyi Resource Cultural and Youth Centre in Taita Taveta County, a project estimated to cost Sh141 million.

The endorsement came after the National Assembly Committee on Sports and Culture, led by Matungulu MP Stephen Mule, toured the site on Saturday, August 16, 2025.

The committee said the inspection was part of its oversight duty to ensure public funds are used properly on the flagship project.

“We are here to confirm whether there is value for money in the construction of this center, which has been allocated Sh141 million,” Mule said during the visit. “So far, we are satisfied with the workmanship and progress.”

According to officials from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and the Creative Economy, the contract for the project was signed on March 7, 2023, at a value of Sh140,989,860. By the end of June this year, Sh84.15 million had already been spent, translating to about 60 percent completion.

Once complete, the center is expected to serve as a hub for young people in the region, offering resources, training, and opportunities in culture, arts, and talent development. Mule added that beyond serving the youth, the facility would also preserve traditions and boost the cultural profile of the community.

“What is being built here is not just a facility, but a modern shrine that will be of immense benefit to both the community and the country,” he said.

The committee urged the government to release the remaining funds to ensure the center is completed within schedule.

Wundanyi MP Danson Mwashako, who joined the inspection tour, praised the contractors for professionalism and transparency, saying the work had so far avoided raising concerns about corruption or misuse of funds.

The project is expected to become a landmark in Taita Taveta, offering both cultural preservation and a platform for youth empowerment once finished.
