President William Ruto has reiterated his commitment to rewarding Harambee Stars with Sh2.5 million each after their impressive 1-0 win over Zambia’s Chipolopolo in the ongoing CHAN 2024 tournament.

Kenya, already assured of a spot in the quarterfinals before the match, clinched the top position in Group A thanks to substitute Boniface Muchiri’s precise pass to Ryan Ogam. Ogam calmly controlled the ball and fired past the Zambian goalkeeper in the 75th minute, sealing the victory.

Speaking on Sunday, August 17, 2025, Ruto acknowledged that few had expected Kenya to make it past the group stages.

“At the start of this CHAN tournament, hardly anyone gave our boys a chance in what was called the ‘Group of Death’. Yet they have proven themselves,” he said.

The President praised the team for their determination and skill, highlighting the wider message their success sends to the nation.

“By beating some of Africa’s top teams, our boys have shown that Kenya is ambitious and capable of greatness. With faith, courage, focus, and hard work, anything is possible,” he said.

In a light-hearted remark, Ruto added, “As for me, I must fulfill the promise that I had made.”

He assured both players and fans that his promise of Sh2.5 million per player would be honored.

Earlier in the week, the Head of State had hinted at increased incentives after Kenya’s win against Morocco. Ruto further pledged additional rewards should the team progress: “If the Harambee Stars win in the quarterfinals, each player will receive Sh1 million and a two-bedroom affordable housing unit in a location of their choice,” he said.

Ruto concluded by celebrating the team’s resilience, emphasizing that their triumph reflects Kenya’s spirit of courage, hard work, and national pride.

“Congratulations, Harambee Stars! You’ve united the country in joy keep marching forward and aim for continental glory,” he added.
