Speaker Wetang'ula reaffirms Rift Valley’s support for Ruto’s re-election

Wetang'ula likened supporting the President in the region to “preaching to the converted.”
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has reaffirmed his support for President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid, telling Rift Valley residents that backing the Head of State is not a debate but a responsibility.
Speaking during a church service in Kapsabet on Sunday, August 17, 2025, Wetang'ula likened supporting the President in the region to “preaching to the converted.” He said Ruto does not need to campaign in the Rift Valley, which he described as the President’s backyard, already firmly behind him.
“We are already preaching to the converted. Supporting President Ruto for a second term is not a debate; it’s a duty. Let critics make noise, President Ruto should ignore them and continue delivering for Kenyans,” Wetang'ula said.
The Speaker dismissed leaders opposing Ruto as having no clear policies or convincing reasons to dissuade Kenyans from re-electing the President. According to Wetang'ula, criticism of Ruto is mostly noise meant to distract, and the President should focus on his current mandate.
He urged the people of Rift Valley to preserve the presidency by coming out in large numbers to support Ruto, stressing that their role is crucial in ensuring he secures a second term.
Wetang'ula further highlighted that voters will judge Ruto in 2027 based on tangible results from development projects and the impact of his policies rather than political propaganda. He accused opponents of merely trying to disrupt political stability without offering real alternatives to the President’s leadership.
Wetang'ula reiterated his message of unity and loyalty within the region, insisting that backing Ruto is a duty that cannot be ignored.
The Speaker emphasized that delivering services, implementing development initiatives, and promoting stability should remain the focus as the region prepares to support the President in the next election cycle.
