KeNHA to close Mombasa-Nairobi Highway section for two weeks

The affected stretch lies between Makupa Bridge and the Changamwe Interchange and will be closed from Saturday, August 23 to Sunday, September 7, 2025.
The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary closure of a key section of the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway to allow for road construction and drainage works.
The affected stretch lies between Makupa Bridge and the Changamwe Interchange and will be closed from Saturday, August 23 to Sunday, September 7, 2025.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa - Nairobi (A8) Highway will experience traffic disruption between the Makupa Bridge and Changamwe Interchange from Saturday, August 23, 2025, to Sunday, September 7, 2025,” Acting Director General Eng. Luka Kimeli said.
KeNHA said the work is necessary to ensure smooth connectivity between Makupa Bridge and the Changamwe area.
The authority urged motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals stationed along the route.
The temporary closure comes just weeks after the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) announced a six-month closure of a section of Links Road in Nyali, Mombasa, from August 1, 2025, to January 30, 2026.
The closure aims to address persistent flooding and drainage problems in the area.
KURA, which manages and maintains all urban public roads except national highways, urged motorists to exercise caution and follow traffic signs and directions around the affected section.
The agency oversees a network of approximately 4,625 km of paved and unpaved roads across urban centers, playing a critical role in improving urban mobility, supporting economic growth, and enhancing the quality of life for citizens nationwide.
