In Summary

To expand access, the government, through FKF and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), has increased official fan zones from 10 to 13, giving more Kenyans the chance to support the national team.

Kenyans hoping to fill Kasarani Stadium to full capacity will have to wait a little longer after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) maintained partial closure sanctions on the venue.

The restrictions follow security breaches during two Harambee Stars preliminary matches in the African Nations Championship (CHAN), and CAF has yet to respond to an appeal by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) seeking to increase stadium capacity from 60% to full.

Speaking at Kasarani Stadium on Wednesday, Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya expressed confidence that CAF may revise its decision, noting the positive conduct of fans during Harambee Stars’ last group game against Zambia.

“We did not have any incident that could attract sanctions from CAF and therefore we want to thank the 12th man, the fans, the security team and all stakeholders who played a key role in ensuring a seamless game on Sunday. This affirmation underscores Kenya’s commitment to delivering a safe and world-class tournament experience,” he said.

“FKF has already engaged CAF to have the numbers revised; however, we await CAF’s response and will communicate any updates in due course,” Mvurya added.

The CS reassured fans that preparations for Friday’s quarterfinal clash against Madagascar were in top gear, with strengthened gate operations, enhanced security, and improved lighting to ensure safety and an enjoyable experience.

To expand access, the government, through FKF and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), has increased official fan zones from 10 to 13, giving more Kenyans the chance to support the national team.

New zones have been established in Ruiru, Camp Toyoyo in Dagoretti, and Babadogo, joining existing zones at Uhuru Park, Archives, Dandora, Jacaranda, Clay City, Githurai, Kibra DC Grounds, and Lucky Summer in Kasarani.

Mvurya also welcomed private and county stakeholders to set up fan zones across Nairobi and Mombasa. In partnership with the County Government of Mombasa, six additional zones will operate at Changamwe Volleyball Grounds, St. Mary’s Bangladesh Grounds, Mama Ngina Waterfront, Shelly Beach, Hassan Joho Stadium (Uwanja wa Mbuzi), and Bilima Grounds.

On ticketing, the Ministry confirmed that CAF was addressing recent technical challenges on its online portal and assured fans that updates will be communicated promptly.

“CAF is sorting out the issue of ticketing. There was a challenge yesterday, and they are working on it. We are confident they will announce soon how fans can access tickets through the portal. In the meantime, we urge Kenyans to maintain their high spirits, unity, and unwavering support for the Harambee Stars,” Mvurya said
