Nine people have been arrested in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area following a crackdown on unlicensed courier service providers.

The operation, conducted by the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) in collaboration with the National Police Service, targeted firms suspected of offering parcel services without the required licenses.

Authorities recovered parcels, receipts, and consignment books during the raid.

The items have been preserved as exhibits for use in court.

The suspects are being held at the California Police Station and are expected to be arraigned at the Makadara Law Courts.

Among the firms found to be operating illegally are Al-Safa Parcel Services, Falcon Fastforward Parcel Services, Turkana Parcel Services, Ramadhan Parcel, Mandera Parcel Stores, Skyway Centre, Sharks Solution Parcel Services, and Rahma Bus Services Limited.

CA called on firms seeking to operate courier businesses to acquire relevant licenses.

"The Authority urges firms wishing to engage in parcel and courier services to apply for the requisite licenses from our offices in Nairobi, Kisumu, Eldoret, Nyeri and Mombasa," said CA.

In June 2025, the Authority intensified its crackdown on illegal courier service providers in a bid to safeguard consumers and bring order to the flourishing industry.

Speaking in Kisumu at the time, the Authority's Principal Postal Compliance Officer, Bernard Nderitu, warned that operators flouting licensing requirements risk arrest and prosecution.

He raised concerns over the mushrooming of dozens of unlicensed courier firms in major towns, including Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa.

"During a recent nationwide enforcement operation, the authority impounded 50 illegal operators, many of them concentrated in Nairobi's Central Business District and Eastleigh," he said, adding that six cases are currently active in court.
