Police have recovered two illegal AK-47 rifles in Tot, Elgeyo Marakwet County, after they were voluntarily surrendered by residents of Kabisioi Village, Olot Sub-location.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), one of the firearms was fitted with a retractable butt and loaded with 12 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, while the other had a wooden butt with an empty magazine.
"The weapons have since been secured and are awaiting further administrative action," said a statement by the National Police Service.
Police commended the cooperation of the local community in supporting ongoing disarmament efforts, adding that the initiative is key to enhancing security and restoring lasting peace in the Kerio Valley.
NPS also urged members of the public to continue partnering with security agencies by providing information that could help in recovering illegal arms or preventing crime.

This comes a week after police recovered one AK-47 rifle, twelve rounds of ammunition, two magazines, and a smoke jacket.
According to NPS, the recovery came after officers conducted an intelligence-led operation in the Kabetwa area of Tot, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
During the well-orchestrated operation, the security officers intercepted an individual believed to be a bandit and seized the rifle.
“The exhibits have been secured as evidence, while the person of interest is in custody pending processing and arraignment in court,” read a statement.
