The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has welcomed the appointment of Dr. Diana Marion as Director of Provider and Beneficiary Management at the Social Health Authority (SHA).
In a statement issued on Saturday, September 13, 2025, KMPDU Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah described the appointment as a “deliberate and timely step” toward strengthening Kenya’s health system.
“This position sits at the heart of SHA’s mission of bridging providers and beneficiaries while advancing efficiency, access, and financial protection. Your appointment is a deliberate and timely step toward strengthening our health system,” Dr. Atellah said.
He praised Dr. Marion’s leadership over the years, citing her previous roles as KMPDU South Rift Branch Deputy Chair, Laikipia Representative, and Secretary General of the Kenya Medical Association (KMA).
“These experiences have equipped you with the insight and credibility to deliver meaningful impact in this new role,” he noted.
KMPDU also acknowledged the leadership of Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale for refining frameworks that support the Ministry and strengthen healthcare provision nationwide.
Dr. Marion was among four senior directors appointed to strengthen its leadership as it pushes to ensure all Kenyans have access to quality and affordable healthcare.
The appointments, announced in a press statement on September 12, 2025, come after a competitive and transparent recruitment process that began on July 29, 2025.
The new team also includes Golda Larissa Akolo as Director of Benefits and Claims Management, Mohamed Alio Ibrahim as Director of Corporate Services, and Jonathan Leisen as Director of Funds and Finance Management.
Board Chairperson Abdi Mohamed said the appointees bring vast experience and technical skills that will be vital in guiding the Authority toward its mandate of providing financial risk protection and expanding healthcare access nationwide.
“Their expertise will be crucial in ensuring that every Kenyan resident has access to quality healthcare without the burden of catastrophic out-of-pocket expenses,” Mohamed said.
