Mwaura: Key areas State has made progress to transform lives
In Summary

Mwaura said the administration inherited a struggling economy that many believed would collapse within three months, but it has since been stabilized to benefit Kenyans.

Government Spokesman Isaac Mwaura has lined out the key areas where the government has made progress in improving the lives of Kenyans.

In a statement on Monday, he explained that under President William Ruto, promises made through the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA Plan), now incorporated into the Medium-Term Plan 4 of Vision 2030, are anchored on five critical pillars for national success.

Mwaura said the administration inherited a struggling economy that many believed would collapse within three months, but it has since been stabilized.

"As you may be aware, we took over a dilapidated economy. Many sectors were on their knees. In fact, some people expected that we wouldn’t last three months without the economy collapsing. We are glad that we have been able to turn around the economy to the benefit of Kenyans...," said Mwura.

He said 2025 marks the third anniversary of the Kenya Kwanza government, now a broad-based administration, which has recorded notable progress in agriculture, healthcare, housing, small businesses, and the digital and creative economy.

In agriculture, Mwaura pointed to major subsidies that lowered the cost of fertiliser from Sh7,000 to Sh2,500 per bag, saving farmers billions of shillings. Support has also been extended to growers of edible oils, rice, nuts, cotton, and pyrethrum, easing household expenses.

“So far, seven million farmers have been registered in the digital database, with 21 million bags of fertiliser distributed nationwide. Consequently, farmers’ incomes have risen significantly: coffee by 52 per cent, tea by 40 per cent, and sugar by 76 per cent,” he said.

On jobs, loans, and opportunities, Mwaura said 2.25 million small businesses have been formalised, while 31 County Aggregation and Industrial Parks (CAIPs) have been upgraded.

"These efforts have created many jobs, giving young people greater access to employment," Mwaura said.

He added that cold storage facilities, incubation hubs, and county trade fairs have opened up new markets for entrepreneurs.
