State invites public views on 2026/2027 Children Services budget proposals

The State Department for Children Services has invited members of the public to share their views on the draft budget proposals for the 2026/2027 financial year and the Medium-Term Budget.

In a notice issued on September 24, 2025, by Principal Secretary, State Department for Children Welfare Services, Carren Ageng’o, the department emphasized that Article 201 (a) of the Constitution “stipulates the need for openness, accountability, and public participation in financial matters.”

“The Government of the Republic of Kenya has initiated the process of development of the FY 2026/27 and the Medium-Term Budget,” the notice read in part.

According to the notice, the proposed priorities fall under four programmes: Child Protection and Safeguarding, Child and Family Welfare Support Services, Child Rights, Governance and Participation and General Administration, Planning and Support Services.

“The key expected outputs and proposed budget allocations are contained in the Sub-Sector Report for the Children Services Sub-Sector for FY 2026/2027–2028/2029,” the statement explained

The report is available on the State Department for Children Services website under the resources section.

The Principal Secretary has urged Kenyans to actively take part in the process, terming it an opportunity for Kenyans to help shape policies that will secure the rights and welfare of children.

“We are calling for public views on the budget proposals from members of the general public and any concerned stakeholders,” the ministry said.

Public views/memoranda can be sent by email to prachildrenservices.go.ke or delivered in an envelope marked Public Participation on 2026/2027 and the Medium-Term Budget addressed to the Principal Secretary, State Department for Children Services, 15th Floor, NSSF Building, Block A Western Wing, Bishop Road, Nairobi.

All submissions must be received by October 6, 2025.
