A new survey by TIFA Research indicates that a majority of Kenyans will actively participate in the 2027 general election, despite half of the population lacking confidence in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
According to the survey, at least 94 per cent of respondents from those who have absolute confidence in the IEBC will take part in the elections.
It further notes that at least 70 per cent of Kenyans who have little to no confidence in the IEBC will also participate in the general elections.
The poll is the second release by TIFA on current political and 2027 election issues.
The findings said at least 48 per cent of respondents who expressed doubts about the next polls pointed to political interference, state manipulation, and corruption of the electoral process (45 per cent ) as their main concern.
Some 34% cited lack of trust in IEBC, the newly appointed commissioners, and the electoral body’s chairperson.
The survey added that political interference and mistrust in the electoral body account for the largest share of skepticism, with nearly four out of every five Kenyans who doubt the integrity of the 2027 elections pointing to them.
Other issues raised include violence and insecurity at 13 per cent, and technology failures during results transmission at 3 per cent.
Another 5 per cent did not state their reasons for distrust in IEBC.
“Among the nearly half of all Kenyans who expressed a total lack of confidence in the integrity of the 2027 elections, most cited either political interference resulting in corruption of the electoral process, or a lack of trust in the IEBC,” TIFA stated.
The survey was conducted from August 23, 2025, to September 3, 2025, using telephonic interviews conducted in Kiswahili (mainly) and English.
The 2,024 respondents’ contacts were collected through face-to-face (i.e., household-based interviews). It has a margin of error of +/-2.17 per cent .
The survey covered nine zones, including Central Rift, Coast, Lower Eastern, Mt Kenya, Nairobi, Northern, Nyanza, South Rift, and Western.
