Vocal Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has announced that the Luhya community is severing its political ties with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

In a post on his Instagram account on Saturday, April 5, 2025, the lawmaker expressed the growing dissatisfaction within the Luhya community.

Salasya pointed out that the Luhya community has consistently backed Raila Odinga in every election, showing up in large numbers at his rallies and offering crucial support at the polls.

The lawmaker argued that the community has been sidelined when it comes to meaningful political influence and key decision-making roles, despite their unwavering loyalty,

“We have stood with Raila Amolo Odinga through thick and thin. We’ve voted for him faithfully in every election, even when others lost hope,” he stated.

“When it comes to national appointments and influence, it’s the Luo community that reaps the most benefits.”

Salasya accused ODM of treating the Luhya community as a mere voting bloc—reliable during elections but overlooked when it comes to sharing power and participating in governance.

He says that the Luhya community is no longer willing to remain on the sidelines of national politics.

He further indicated that a political shift is already taking place across parts of Western Kenya as moving away from ODM’s influence.

As part of this realignment, Salasya revealed plans to embark on a regional tour beginning April 11, 2025.

The aim of the tour, he said, is to officially inform the community that their political break with ODM is now in motion.
