Kilimani, Langata among 16 Nairobi estates to experience two-day water disruption

Residents in at least 16 estates across Nairobi will face a two-day water supply disruption starting Friday morning as the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) carries out pipeline interconnection works.

The interruption, conducted in partnership with the Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA), will enable the connection of the Kigoro–Gigiri–Kabete water pipeline at the Gigiri Pumping Station and Reservoirs.

The shutdown will begin at 6 am on Friday, October 3, 2025, and is expected to end at 8 am on Saturday, October 4, 2025. NCWSC has advised residents in all affected areas to prepare adequately by storing enough water and using it sparingly.

Westlands and Lavington will see disruptions in estates including Riverside, Chalbi Drive, Convent Drive, Gitanga Road, Kunde Road, Mbaazi, Masanduku, Leloghi Gardens, Ole Ndume Road, King’ara Road, and Riara Road. In Kileleshwa, homes along Kandara Road, Gichugu Road, Mazeras Road, Mbooni Road, Othaya Road, Kaputei, Laikipia Road, Githunguri, as well as DoD, St. George’s School, and Tembere Road will be affected.

The University of Nairobi and surrounding areas along Mamlaka Line and Valley Road will also experience water shortages. Sections of Kilimani, including Argwings Kodhek Road from Chaka Road to Hurlingham, Hurlingham Shopping Centre, Mtito Andei Road, Kindaruma Road, Rose Avenue, Lower George Padmore Road, Daystar University, Denis Pritt Road, and Coptic Hospital, will be impacted.

In Kawangware and Dagoretti, the affected areas include Lower Gitanga Road, Sunset Estate, Sohill City Estates, Kagira, Kagondo, Muhuri Road, Upper Kabiria, Mithonge, Kamwanya, Kahuho Road, Ngina Road, Kikuyu Road, Waithaka, Ndwaru Road, Gachui, Kirigo, Dagoretti Market, and Mariguini. Uthiru and Muthua estates, covering Muchugia Road, Mutego, Mutuini, and Gatina, will also face interruptions.

Along Ngong Road and Upper Hill, the shutdown will hit Bishop Magua, Kabarnet Road, Joseph Kangethe Road, Muchai Drive, Jamhuri Estate, Upper Hill, Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) offices, Highview 1 and 2, and Kenyatta Market. Parts of Kibera and Highrise, including Makina, Karanja Road, Fort Jesus, Olympic, Kibera Kianda, Gatwekera, Ayany, Mwembeni, Makongeni, Kwa DC, Lindi, KEMRI Flats on Mbagathi Way, and Highrise Estate, will also be affected.

Other areas affected include Kinoo and Kang’ethe, particularly Kang’ethe Greens; Langata, including Southlands Estate, Park 1, Ngei 2 Extension, Madaraka, Hima Gardens, Siwaka, Funguo Estate, Akila 2, Rangers Court, Leeban B, and Nairobi West Shopping Centre; and Karen, covering Bogani East Road, Muiri Lane, Forest Edge, Mukinduri Road, Muricho Road, Mukoma Road, Kisembe East, Magadi Road, Ndorobo Road, Kikeni Road, Ndovu Road, Kifaru Road, Tandara Road, Mutamaiyo, Mundenderu Road, Kikeni Close, Korongo Road, and Swara Lodge.

In the CBD and along Mombasa Road, estates and institutions such as South B and C, Mater Hospital, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), Athi River Export Processing Zone (EPZA), Coca-Cola, Mukuru, Imara Daima, North Airport Road, Embakasi Village, and Tassia Estate will be affected. Water disruptions will also extend to Ngara and Gigiri, covering Ngara, Forest Road, Desai Road, Kipande Road, Limuru Road, Murang’a Road, Park Road, Whispers Avenue, Village Market, UNEP, and the US Embassy, along with the entire Industrial Area. Eastleigh and surrounding neighborhoods, including Maringo, Buruburu Phase 3 and 4, Gikomba, Pumwani, Majengo, and Shauri Moyo, will also face shortages.

In Mathare and its environs, the outage will affect Mathare North, GSU, Rafiki, Utalii College, KPLC Training School, Traffic Headquarters, Mathari Hospital, Malango Kubwa, Juja Road, Huruma, Ngei I and II, Kosovo, parts of Ngumba Estate, Old Muthaiga Road, Thome, Survey, Safari Park Hotel, Kenya Breweries, and sections of Baba Dogo light industries.

NCWSC reassured residents that normal supply would be restored as soon as the works are complete. “We are committed to restoring normal supply as quickly as possible and regret any inconvenience caused,” the company said.
