The Wiper party has defended its leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, against claims linking him to misinformation about ODM leader Raila Odinga’s health.
In a hard-hitting statement, Wiper’s Secretary-General Senator Shakila Abdalla accused ODM of engaging in political theatre, which she further described as acts of desperation from a once respected movement that has lost its moral compass and political relevance.
Wiper dismissed allegations that Kalonzo harbors ill intentions toward Odinga, saying the two leaders share a long history of cooperation and mutual respect.
“Let it be stated clearly: H.E. Kalonzo Musyoka harbors no ill whatsoever toward Mr. Odinga. Any suggestion that he wishes harm upon Raila is malicious, reckless, and utterly false,” she said.
The party said ODM’s remarks were a diversion from internal confusion and cracks within the opposition outfit.
“ODM’s attempt to drag H.E. Kalonzo Musyoka into its internal confusion is a weak distraction from the cracks splitting the so-called Broad-Based Government they now defend so blindly,” it added.
Wiper also criticized ODM for abandoning its reformist principles, accusing the party of aligning with the same regime it once condemned for violence and repression.
The party further reminded ODM that Raila Odinga’s failed bid for the African Union Commission chairmanship had nothing to do with Kalonzo.
It said Odinga’s defeat stemmed from ‘diplomatic blunders’ and mishandling by the very government he is now in bed with.
According to Wiper, Odinga’s loss was not a shock but rather a consistent trend that mirrors the political miscalculations of those now attempting to rewrite history.
“ODM’s latest statement is not about Raila’s health. It is about their guilt, their fear, and their desperate attempt to justify a political marriage stinking of despotism,” Wiper said.
The party insisted that no one would succeed in dragging Kalonzo Musyoka into ODM’s political woes.
“No one and absolutely no one will drag H.E. Kalonzo Musyoka into their self-inflicted political decay,” Shakila said.
Her response was to an earlier claim by ODM that leaders from the United Opposition had started the misinformation campaign against the former Prime Minister.
Raila’s spokesperson Dennis Onyango accused a section of political figures led by impeached former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and former Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa of orchestrating a familiar campaign of misinformation targeting the opposition leader.
According to the statement, the alleged misinformation is being spread by the same team that previously attacked Mr. Odinga’s bid for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission earlier this year.
“The misinformation is broadcast by the same team that went on a frenzy against Hon. Raila’s bid for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission earlier this year,” the statement read.
The Secretariat accused the politicians of co-opting sections of the media and bloggers to spread false information, including AI-generated images, which are then circulated as breaking news.
“The hope of this team then and now is to bully Hon. Raila to provide a back for them to ride on in their struggle against President William Ruto,” Onyango said.
He emphasized that Raila Odinga has always been open and transparent about his health, citing past instances when he publicly disclosed his medical condition.
