Police in Maralal Town have arrested two suspects after they were found in possession of seven pieces of elephant tusks weighing about 11.33 kilograms and valued at approximately 1.1 million shillings.

The suspects were arrested on Sunday, October 5, 2025, by officers from the National Police Service in Samburu Central, working jointly with Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers.

The tusks, which had been concealed in a bag, were seized alongside a red Boxer motorbike and are now held as exhibits.

“The duo are in police custody pending arraignment in court,” said a statement from the National Police Service.

Meanwhile, in an operation aimed at recovering stolen livestock in Marsabit County, a multi-agency security team comprising officers from Laisamis Police Station, National Government Administration Officers, National Police Reservists (NPR), and village elders on Sunday successfully recovered 17 stolen goats.

The recovery was made following a coordinated operation that tracked the animals and found them in the Muguri Naarok area, approximately 57 kilometres south of the police station.

The goats have been taken to Laisamis Police Station for identification by their rightful owner.

One suspect is currently in custody and will be arraigned in court today.

Police also called on the public to continue sharing information that may help authorities deal with livestock theft.

“Members of the public are encouraged to continue sharing timely information to aid in combating livestock theft and other crimes by calling 999, 911, 112, or through #FichuaKwaDCI via the toll-free number 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp 0709 570 000,” read the statement.
