Kenya Power schedules maintenance affecting three counties

The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced planned power maintenance scheduled for today, Monday, October 6, 2025, affecting parts of Nandi, Nyeri, and Embu counties.

The scheduled outage, set to run from 9 am to 5 pm is aimed at facilitating essential maintenance works to improve service reliability and grid efficiency.

KPLC has urged affected customers to plan accordingly as technicians undertake the maintenance exercise to enhance electricity distribution across the regions.

According to the official statement from KPLC, parts of Nandi County, particularly Mbogo Valley and adjacent customers, will experience temporary power interruptions throughout the maintenance period.

KPLC stated that the exercise is part of its ongoing initiative to improve the efficiency of electricity supply and ensure consistent service delivery across the North Rift Region.

“We wish to inform our esteemed customers in Mbogo Valley and surrounding areas that power supply will be temporarily interrupted on Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to allow for scheduled maintenance works,” the notice reads in part.

“We regret any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work to enhance network reliability.”

In the Mt. Kenya Region, the maintenance exercise will cover parts of Nyeri County, specifically Ringroad, Kamakwa, and Kamuyu.

The affected areas include Ring Road, Baraka Estate, Kamakwa Market, Kamakwa Waterworks, Nyewasco Water, Tana Water Offices, Kamuyu C/Fact, Nyawira Estate, Kanoga Primary, Gitathini Secondary, St. Xavier, Mwonjoria, White House, Karingaini, Mt. Kenya School, Kandara Market, and parts of Ciaraini.

KPLC explained that these interruptions are necessary to facilitate vital maintenance work on key transmission and distribution lines.

“This scheduled maintenance is aimed at reinforcing the electricity infrastructure in the Mt. Kenya region to minimise unplanned outages,” said the company in the statement. “Our teams will be on-site throughout the day to ensure safe and timely completion of the maintenance activities.”

Additionally, parts of Embu County will also be affected, with the maintenance exercise covering Rukuriri, Kyeni, and Mufu.

The areas to experience temporary outages include Kanja Market, Mary Goretti Girls, Mufu Market, Kathageri Market, Kigumo Market, Mukuuri Market, Mbunjeru Market, Kiaganari Girls, Kegonge Boys, Mikundu C/Fact, Kathunguri Market, Njeruri Market, Iriari Market, Kariru Secondary, and Gitare Secondary, as well as neighbouring customers.
