A resident of Elgeyo Marakwet County surrendered an illegal AK-47 rifle to security agencies on October 5, 2025, in Kacheturnguny Village, Muruber Sub-Location, as part of the ongoing national disarmament drive.

The surrender follows sustained collaboration between security agencies, local leaders, and elders working to promote peace under the multi-agency Operation Rudisha Bunduki.

The surrender comes amid sustained public engagement efforts by security teams and community leaders aimed at promoting peace and stability through dialogue and voluntary cooperation.

Operation Rudisha Bunduki seeks to foster reconciliation, rebuild trust, and restore peace in areas previously affected by inter-community conflict and illegal gun ownership.

Authorities emphasized that such voluntary actions are crucial in addressing the proliferation of small arms and enhancing security in pastoral regions that have experienced violence in the past.

“The voluntary surrender follows sustained engagements by local leaders, elders, and security officers under the multi-agency disarmament initiative aimed at fostering peace and stability in the region,” the NPS noted.

The National Police Service reported significant progress in the ongoing operation, revealing that a total of 281 illegal firearms, 2,033 rounds of ammunition, and one rifle grenade have so far been surrendered by members of the public since the exercise began.
