The National Police Service (NPS) on Monday, October 6, 2025, busted an illegal counterfeit honey operation in the Umoja 2 area of Buruburu Estate, Nairobi, arresting one suspect and seizing materials believed to have been used in the production of fake honey.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, police said the discovery was made during a sting operation conducted on October 6, 2025, by officers from the Nairobi Region Command.

According to the statement, officers arrested one suspect during the raid and confiscated several exhibits linked to the illicit production process.

“During the raid, officers arrested one suspect and recovered several items believed to have been used in the manufacture of the fake honey,” the NPS said.

The recovered items included finished counterfeit honey, chemical substances used in production, a heating coil, and a gas cylinder. These items were seized as evidence pending further analysis.

The suspect is currently in custody as police pursue other leads in the ongoing investigation. “The suspect is being held at Ruai Police Station pending arraignment in court,” the statement added.

The police said the operation is part of a broader campaign aimed at curbing the proliferation of counterfeit food products, which pose serious health risks to consumers.

“Operations targeting counterfeit food products and other illicit goods are continuing as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard public health and consumer safety,” the NPS affirmed.
