Police in Kisumu have arrested a prime suspect believed to be behind a string of motor vehicle thefts across the county and neighboring areas.
According to a statement released by the National Police Service on Wednesday, the suspect was apprehended on October 7, 2025, in an intelligence-led operation conducted by officers from the Kisumu Central Police Station targeting individuals linked to vehicle theft syndicates operating in the region.
"Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect has been coordinating the movement and sale of stolen vehicles, some of which had previously been impounded at Migosi Police Station," the statement read in part.
During the operations, police recovered eleven vehicles suspected to have been stolen, all of which lacked valid ownership or registration documents.
The vehicles have since been detained as investigators work to trace their legitimate owners and unravel the full extent of the network involved.
The suspect is currently in custody and will be arraigned before the Kisumu Law Courts once investigations are complete.
This comes after a joint operation by officers from Migosi and Kasagam Police Stations, led by the respective station commanders, nabbed two suspects, resulting in the recovery of several motor vehicles suspected to have been stolen.
The operation was executed in Khayeko Junction and Aliwa Village within Kisumu East Sub-County.
The National Police Service (NPS) commended the officers involved in the operation for their swift and coordinated action, reiterating its commitment to combating organized crime and restoring public trust.
NPS urged the public to be vigilant and cooperate with the police to help in combating organized crime within their societies.
"Members of the public have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities related to vehicle theft through the toll-free hotlines 999, 911, or 112, or anonymously via #FichuaKwaDCI on 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp 0709 570 000," the statement read.
