President William Ruto on Friday visited Kabarak, where Kanu chairman Gideon Moi is hosting more than 3,000 party members and supporters in a major political gathering.

The high-level meeting comes just a day after Moi withdrew from the Baringo Senate by-election, ending speculation over his anticipated bid.

Upon arrival, the president first visited the burial site of the late Daniel Moi, where he paid his respects before proceeding to the main event.

Moi’s decision to step down has raised political interest, especially following reports that he met with the president at State House on Wednesday, where Ruto is said to have convinced him not to run.

The withdrawal opened the path for UDA’s Kiprono Chemitei, who was later cleared by the electoral commission.

On Thursday, Moi did not appear before the IEBC in Kabarnet to present his nomination papers. His absence caused tension among supporters who had gathered in anticipation of his formal entry into the race.

During the Kabarak event, Moi is expected to address the crowd and explain his decision to bow out of the contest. The gathering has drawn attention as it signals possible political realignments and renewed engagement between Kanu and the ruling alliance.
