Constable Ramadhan Khamisi Matanka of the General Service Unit has been laid to rest in his Kajiado home, following full Islamic funeral rites, after a fatal attack at the State House entrance.
He was honored with a full police gun salute during his burial on Tuesday.
An autopsy confirmed that State House General Service Unit officer died from severe bleeding after being struck by an arrow that pierced his ribs, lung, and heart.
The examination took place at Kenyatta National Hospital mortuary with police and family members present. Matanka was laid to rest in Kajiado County, while human rights activists called for justice over the fatal attack.
The officer, stationed along Dennis Pritt Road, was fatally struck in the chest by a spear on Monday morning, fired by 56-year-old Kithuka Kimunyi.
The attack occurred at around 8:15 am during routine security checks on vehicles entering the State House premises.
According to the police report, the assailant suddenly drew a bow and shot the officer in the left side of the chest, leaving him critically injured. Constable Matanka was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital but died while undergoing emergency treatment.
The suspect was quickly restrained by other officers and is currently in police custody as investigators probe his motives. Authorities report that Kimunyi told police he was sent by Satan to carry out the attack.
“This man claims he was sent by Satan to attack the police officer. He killed him, and he is lucky to be alive himself,” said an officer familiar with the case.
Eyewitnesses said Kimunyi approached the scene posing as a member of the street families, carrying a sack with the spear hidden inside.
He reportedly crouched behind a flower bed and then attacked Constable Matanka while he and two colleagues were checking a vehicle entering State House.
Senior police officials, including Kilimani police boss Patricia Yegon and DCI Hussein Mahat, visited the scene and the hospital where the officer’s body lay.
State House officials were also present. Authorities confirmed that the suspect is under further investigation to determine the full motive behind the attack.
The deadly incident comes hours after another GSU officer was reportedly strangled and drowned near Jomo Kenyatta International Airport following an altercation with a man.
The State House and its lodges are routinely guarded by officers from GSU’s G-Company.
On Tuesday, Kimunyi appeared before the Kibera Law Courts for arraignment. Dressed in a white hoodie and brown trousers, he appeared frail, limping visibly and using one leg for support.
One of his legs was bare, missing both shoe and sock, as he was helped across the courtroom by two security agents.
