Two swept away by flash floods in Bomet County

One of the men slipped and fell into the fast-moving water. In a bid to rescue him, the second man also lost his balance.
Two middle-aged men were swept away by flash floods on Thursday evening in Kiprichait, Bomet County, while attempting to cross a wooden bridge.
Bomet County Police Commander Edward Imbwaga reported that the two had been walking along the banks of a watercourse when they chose to cross a bridge that had been partially submerged by rising waters.
He stated that one of the men slipped and fell into the fast-moving water. In a bid to rescue him, the second man also lost his balance.
Both were quickly overpowered by the strong current and carried away by the floods, according to Imbwaga.
Area assistant chief David Rotich explained that the two men had been in the area to attend a nearby funeral and were not familiar with the surrounding landscape.
Efforts by local residents to locate the missing individuals were quickly launched, but the operation was complicated by persistent rainfall and swelling water levels, which made access difficult.
According to Rotich, the unfavorable weather conditions significantly slowed the search, leaving little hope of immediate recovery efforts by the community alone.
He emphasized the need for professional intervention, stressing that the situation required careful handling due to the dangerous nature of the terrain and the rising waters.
