Nairobi will not be spared, with forecasts showing the capital is likely to see cloudy conditions and light morning showers.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that various parts of the country are set to experience heavy rainfall over the coming week, with Kenyans urged to remain cautious and prepare for possible disruptions.

In its latest weather report issued on Tuesday, the department indicated that morning rains and afternoon thunderstorms will hit several regions, especially in the western, central, and coastal parts of the country.

Counties such as Kiambu, Nakuru, and Kisumu are among those expected to receive heavy rainfall, which may impact day-to-day activities.

The highlands west of the Rift Valley, parts of the Rift Valley itself, and the Lake Victoria Basin are expected to experience rainy mornings followed by sunny intervals, before giving way to afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

Night-time rainfall is also expected to spread across several locations.

"Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur over several places. Night showers are expected over a few places, occasionally spreading to several places," the KMD stated.

Areas likely to be affected include Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, and Narok counties.

In the northern part of Kenya, residents in Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties should brace for morning rains, followed by rainfall in the afternoon and night.

The department has also warned of thunderstorms expected in the afternoons and evenings in these areas.

Nairobi will not be spared, with forecasts showing the capital is likely to see cloudy conditions and light morning showers.

The report predicts afternoon and night-time rainfall, with the possibility of thunderstorms, especially later in the day.

"Afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur over a few places, occasionally spreading to several places," KMD added.

The coastal region is also expected to experience wet conditions throughout the day. Counties such as Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and parts of Tana River are forecast to receive rainfall in the morning, afternoon, and night.

Further inland, counties like Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta are also expected to experience morning showers followed by afternoon thunderstorms. These areas are urged to stay alert, especially in flood-prone zones.

As the rains continue to spread throughout the country, the weather department is calling on Kenyans to stay updated and follow safety measures, particularly in areas where heavy rainfall could lead to floods or travel interruptions.

The forecast will remain in effect for the next seven days, with the department continuing to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed.

Residents have been encouraged to remain aware of their local conditions and act accordingly.
