Detectives in Eldoret have uncovered a dangerous robbery gang that had been infiltrating homes while masquerading as employees of the Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (Eldowas).

Their criminal activities were brought to a halt when an attempt to rob a victim was interrupted by law enforcement.

The police, stationed near the residence of Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Eddy Nyale, acted swiftly when they noticed the gang members attempting to flee.

In the process, they shot one of the suspects, Luvira Muhati, in the hand as he tried to escape, ensuring the safety of the community and thwarting the criminal plot.

Muhati was arrested and taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment following the foiled robbery attempt.

He was subsequently arraigned before Chief Magistrate Dennis Mikoyan on Friday. During the court session, the investigating officer applied for a 10-day detention period to allow for further investigation into the matter.

In her sworn affidavit, Police Inspector Joyce Tunge informed the court that Muhati was arrested on suspicion of committing a violent robbery.

She further revealed that the incident had been reported to the Naiberi Police Station under OB No.22/16/04/2025.

According to the officer, the suspect and four accomplices had gone to the complainant's home, posing as employees of Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (Eldowas) who were there to install a solar panel.

The investigation indicated that the suspects attempted to trick the homeowner into opening the door and helping them with a ladder.

The gang's plan was to gain entry under the pretext of performing maintenance work, but their efforts were foiled by the police, leading to the capture of Muhati and the disruption of the robbery.
