Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga has praised President William Ruto’s broad-based government, calling it the most inclusive and development-focused administration Kenya has seen in decades.
Speaking in Siaya County on Monday, Oburu said the collaboration between President Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga had ushered in a new era of unity and equitable development.
“This broad-based arrangement is the best we’ve had,” he said. “I have worked with Kenyatta, Moi, Kibaki, and Uhuru, but this time we have a genuine partnership that is bringing real development to our people.”
The veteran legislator said the government’s inclusive approach was already yielding results, noting that Kenyans would soon see tangible changes in their regions. He added that the current cooperation between the government and opposition was built on trust and mutual respect rather than political expediency.
Oburu’s remarks come amid ongoing political realignments, with former rivals pledging to work together under President Ruto’s broad-based model.
The senator has in recent months been a vocal supporter of the arrangement. During the burial of women’s rights icon Mama Phoebe Asiyo in Homa Bay County, Oburu reaffirmed that the Ruto–Raila partnership was here to stay despite dissent within ODM.
“Your Excellency, our people are honest. If they don’t love you, they tell you,” he said. “When you campaigned here earlier, you wouldn’t have received such a warm welcome. But now Raila has told them this is the way to go. We are in this broad-based government to stay until 2027.”
He urged critics of the alliance to be patient and respect the political order.
The broad-based arrangement began after the Gen Z anti-government protests in June 2024, when President Ruto dissolved his Cabinet and reconstituted it to include members from the opposition’s ODM party alongside those from his UDA party.
