Additionally, the committee has recommended that, until the court cases are resolved, the County Assembly should resume its normal operations in line with the constitution.

A Senate committee has asked for additional time to complete its investigations and finalize a comprehensive report on the ongoing disputes at the Nyamira County Assembly.

In a report presented to the Senate, the Devolution and Intergovernmental Relations Committee, led by Wajir’s Sheikh Abbas, has suggested that the County Assembly sessions be held at the Nyamira Assembly Building, located across from the Kenya Industrial Estates in Nyamira.

Additionally, the committee has recommended that, until the court cases are resolved, the County Assembly should resume its normal operations in line with the constitution, the County Governments Act, and the standing orders of the Nyamira County Assembly.

Speaker Enock Okero has contested his impeachment, while a petition is also underway challenging the election of Ward Representative Thaddeus Nyarabo as the Speaker of the Nyamira County Assembly.

The committee noted that the practice of holding parallel sittings in the County Assembly had resulted in significant operational inefficiencies and confusion within the County Government.

The investigation was prompted after Senator Okong’o Mogeni (Nyamira) informed the plenary that the Nyamira County Assembly had divided into two factions, each holding separate sessions at different locations.

Omogeni explained that one faction has been holding its sessions at the main County Assembly building, while the other has been conducting meetings in various towns across the county.

"The opposing groups are being led by different individuals, each asserting their legitimacy as the Speaker and Clerk of the County Assembly. This situation has led to significant confusion," he stated.
