Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament, Peter Kaluma, has praised President William Ruto’s approach to international relations, noting that it is enhancing Kenya’s reputation on the global stage and bringing tangible advantages to the nation.

His remarks come as President Ruto arrived in China on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, for a four-day official state visit.

In a post shared on his X account on Wednesday, April 23, 2024, Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma commended President William Ruto’s diplomatic achievements, highlighting the significant strides made in strengthening Kenya’s global footprint within a short period.

Kaluma observed that President Ruto has been officially received for state visits by both the United States and China—an uncommon accomplishment for an African head of state.

He further noted that Ruto has also been welcomed by various other nations and that Kenya has successfully hosted numerous international summits and forums.

According to Kaluma, these diplomatic engagements are already yielding positive outcomes for the country, particularly in attracting foreign investment and enhancing economic growth.

"In under a year, President Ruto has been hosted for state visits by both the United States and China, along with other nations. Kenya has also held several major international events, which are bringing tangible financial gains to the country," Kaluma remarked.

"In terms of foreign relations, President Ruto is performing exceptionally well and deserves high marks," he added.

President Ruto’s international itinerary has been notably busy over the past two years.

In May 2024, he undertook a landmark state visit to the United States, becoming the first African leader in nearly 15 years to receive such an invitation.

During this visit, then-U.S. President Joe Biden conferred upon Kenya the status of a major non-NATO ally, marking a historic first for any sub-Saharan African nation.

President Ruto’s international engagements have closely aligned with Kenya’s expanding role on the global stage.

One notable instance was Kenya’s leadership in an international mission to stabilize Haiti, with the country pledging 1,000 police officers to support peace efforts in the crisis-hit Caribbean nation.

In February 2024, Ruto travelled to Japan, where he secured Ksh350 billion in development funding.

This was followed by a visit to Ghana in April, during which he was awarded the country’s highest national honour and rallied support for Raila Odinga’s bid to chair the African Union Commission.

June 2024 saw Ruto attend the inaugural Korea-Africa Summit in South Korea, and in September, he participated in the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

His ongoing visit to China in April 2025 signals Kenya’s continued commitment to deepening relations with Asia’s largest economy.

Beyond diplomacy and development, Ruto has also taken a prominent role in promoting peace and regional security. In September 2024, he made a visit to Haiti, where he affirmed Kenya’s readiness to lead a full United Nations peacekeeping mission.

Kenya is already spearheading a multinational security team working to combat gang violence and political instability in the country.
