Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua harshly criticized Members of Parliament from the Mount Kenya region for their unwavering support of President William Ruto.

Addressing a gathering at AIPCA Gatumbi Church in Lari Constituency, Kiambu County, on Sunday, Gachagua described the MPs as foolish for blindly backing the president without question.

"How can you be so foolish, Members of Parliament from this region? William Ruto is mocking you. He sends people from his own community to the military, the police, NYS, and KRA," Gachagua remarked.

He accused the MPs of staying silent while the president overlooks the Mt. Kenya region when it comes to job opportunities.

The former Deputy President challenged how these leaders could remain complacent as the youth from their community face increasing unemployment and lack of prospects.

He claimed that the region’s youth are being exploited to fuel violence and engage in alcohol consumption.

"When the history of this community is recorded, the Members of Parliament from this area will be remembered as some of the most foolish leaders ever elected in the Mount Kenya region," he added.

He criticized President Ruto for issuing what he described as a casual apology over the loss of lives, questioning the sincerity of the gesture.

"How can you apologize for such tragic events so lightly? People were abducted—there’s no ‘if’ about it. If you truly mean to apologize to the families of those taken and killed, you should invite the affected parents, offer a proper, public apology, and provide them with compensation," he said.

His remarks aligned with those of ODM leader Raila Odinga, who addressed the issue during Madaraka Day celebrations in Homa Bay County.

Raila had emphasized the need for justice and closure, stating, "President Ruto’s request for forgiveness at the National Prayer Breakfast was a good starting point. But we must go beyond that. Families who lost loved ones deserve compensation—it’s the only path to healing and moving forward."
