Flamengo, manager Filipe Luis vowed on Thursday that his team will remain faithful to their "fierce, relentless style" as they prepare to face Chelsea in a highly anticipated Club World Cup encounter on Friday.
Top of the Brazilian league at the moment, Flamengo will look to end a 13-year winless streak for South American teams against European counterparts.
Their form is very good, collecting five consecutive victories in all competitions, including a convincing 2-0 win over Esperance de Tunis in their tournament opener.
Ahead of the match, Filipe Luis emphasized his unwavering belief in his team’s philosophy.
"Never give up on your convictions. I have a conviction, a very clear idea of what I think about the game," he told AFP.
On their part, Bayern Munich strolled to a 10-0 win over Auckland City in their Club World Cup opener, but there will be no room for complacency when they face Argentina's Boca Juniors in their second Group C match, the German club's coach Vincent Kompany said on Thursday.
Boca came close to winning their opener against Benfica but let a two-goal lead slip away in a 2-2 draw with the Portuguese side, and Kompany said they presented a real threat on the transition.
"We know the quality of the tournament. Every team taking part here is a winning team," Kompany told reporters ahead of Friday's game, with Bayern looking to win their third Club World Cup title.
Part timers Auckland City will take on Benfica, at least hoping to avoid a thrashing of Bayern proportions, while LAFC will take on Tunisian outfit Esperance Tunis in the day's other matches.
The match presents the first-ever meeting between an MLS team and a club from Tunisia, and only the third encounter of an MLS side against teams from Africa in the Club World Cup.
Both sides lost 2-0 in their first encounters against Chelsea and Flamengo, respectively.
