Netball: Kenya wins bronze in UAE women's championships

Kenya's national netball team, popularly referred to as the Divas, wrapped up their campaign at the UAE Netball Championship in style, securing a well-deserved bronze medal after a 46-37 victory over Ireland.
The six-day tournament concluded with Namibia, the pre-tournament favorites, living up to their highest ranking by claiming gold with a 62-53 win over surprise finalists Singapore in a competitive final.
Kenya entered the third-place playoff with confidence, having already defeated Ireland 52-42 in the round-robin stage.
Against the Irish on Saturday, Kenya lead through all four quarters to take the win. They won quarter one 13-5, lead after quarter two with a lead of 24-15. The third quarter ended 34-28 with the match eventually ending 46-37.
The Kenyans had also defeated hosts UAE 58-50 in an earlier clash. They beat the USA 66-25 in a separate match earlier in the competition.
They narrowly lost 42-40 to Singapore in their only other loss in the competition, having also lost to Namibia in their first match of the tournament.
Kenya, UAE, USA, Namibia, the Republic of Ireland and Singapore were the contenders at this year's edition.
Kenya coach Ali Mugisha was happy for his charges to collect valuable experience at the 2025 Cup.
"This has been a good experience where we have played against some top sides from around the world. It can only make us better," he said in the aftermath of the Ireland clash on Saturday.
Kenya is currently ranked number 25 in the world rankings.
In comparison, South Africa are the best team in Africa, currently ranked fifth. Uganda are seventh, Malawi is eighth while Namibia are ranked 18th.
